GSTIN verification
A GSTIN is not a random string. It carries a check digit computed from everything before it, which means an invented number can be caught with certainty, offline, in milliseconds.
No subscription. You are charged per check, and only after the subject has consented.
Who this is for
Anyone taking a GSTIN from a supplier, customer or counterparty and wanting to know it is real before relying on it.
The problem
GSTINs get typed onto invoices and letterheads and are almost never checked. A wrong one on your own invoice means your buyer cannot claim input credit. A fabricated one from a supplier may be the first sign of a shell entity.
How it works
- 1Enter the GSTIN, and the PAN if you have it.
- 2The check digit is computed from the first fourteen characters using the published algorithm.
- 3The embedded PAN is compared against any PAN you supplied, since a GSTIN contains its holder’s PAN.
- 4The identifier is looked up in an independent corporate register to establish which entity it belongs to.
What is included
- Check-digit validation, which proves the number is not fabricated or mistyped
- State identification from the first two digits
- PAN and GSTIN cross-verification, catching a contradiction between two identifiers that cannot both be right
- Corporate registry lookup returning the registered legal name and status
What is not included
Said plainly, because a background check that quietly omits something is worse than one that names its limits.
- Live registration status and filing history from the GST portal, which requires a licensed provider.
- Turnover, returns and compliance rating.
Common questions
What does a failed check digit prove?
That the GSTIN cannot be genuine. It is arithmetic, not judgement: the number was either mistyped or invented. That is a certainty rather than a probability, which is unusual and useful.
What does a passing check digit prove?
Only that the number is well formed. It does not prove the registration exists or is active. Those need a registry lookup, and we say so on every result rather than letting a green tick imply more than it means.
Why does a GSTIN contain a PAN?
Characters three to twelve of a GSTIN are the holder’s PAN. That is what makes a cross-check possible: if someone gives you a PAN and a GSTIN that disagree, one of them does not belong to them.
Do I need consent to check a GSTIN?
GST registration data is public. Our flow still asks, to keep one consistent standard across the product.

Raise a request in under a minute. The subject consents on their own phone, and nothing is looked up until they do.
