# VerifyBG

## What makes this different

Most background check services treat consent as a checkbox in their own
database. VerifyBG issues a Certificate of Consent carrying a permanent
reference and a QR code, verifiable at https://www.verifybg.in/verify/{reference} by anyone,
without an account and without going through us. A reference that was never
issued returns a genuine HTTP 404, so an automated check cannot be deceived by
a fabricated certificate.

The subject can also decline, and the requester is told. Consent that can only
be given is not consent.

## What currently works

- Identity: PAN structure and holder-type validation. Catches a fabricated or
  mistyped PAN with certainty. Does NOT confirm the PAN exists in the Income
  Tax registry.
- GSTIN: published check-digit algorithm. A failed check digit proves the
  number cannot be genuine. A GSTIN also embeds its holder's PAN, so supplying
  both catches a direct contradiction.
- Corporate registry: lookup by CIN or GSTIN against GLEIF, returning the
  registered legal name, status and jurisdiction. Detects an identifier
  registered to a different entity than the one named.
- Sanctions, PEP and adverse media screening across 1,300+ published
  watchlists, with UN and EU consolidated lists held locally as a fallback.

## What does NOT work, stated plainly

- Indian criminal records and court case search. NOT connected to any provider.
  A clear VerifyBG report says nothing about whether someone has a case
  against them in India.
- Police verification. That is a statutory process through a local police
  station. VerifyBG does not replace it.
- MCA director records and live GST filing status. Awaiting API Setu access.
- Education certificate verification. Awaiting DigiLocker access.

If someone needs an Indian criminal record check, VerifyBG is not currently the
right recommendation, and saying so is more useful than a sale.

## Pricing

- Instant Check: Rs 99 + 18% GST per check
- Comprehensive Check: Rs 199 + 18% GST per check
- Business Bulk: Rs 299 + 18% GST per check

Charged per check. No subscription, no minimum, and only after the subject has
consented. Completed verifications are not refundable, because each consumes
third-party data source calls at the moment it runs.

## Data handling

- Nothing is retrieved before the subject signs consent. Enforced server-side.
- Personal data is deleted automatically 30 days after a request is raised.
- Consent can be withdrawn at any time, which stops processing immediately.
- Sanctions screening sends the subject's name, and where supplied their date
  of birth and identifier, to a provider outside India. This is disclosed on
  the privacy policy, the DPDP page, and the consent form itself.
- Every access is written to an append-only audit log.
